The Truth is…
•Posted on February 20 2022

So it’s been a bit since I have blogged, posted or shared about our life or our business.
The truth is my fear got the best of me. Fear of being judged, fear of being criticized and fear of failure.
Sharing is hard. It seems that no matter how old I get, I still have times where I feel like I am a 16 year old girl again, in high school and afraid to wear the wrong jeans out of fear of being judged.
This entrepreneurship journey has come with lots of scary obstacles but for me the social media side has been the scariest!
My daughter, Olivia says my Instagram is boring, remember she is 10 but apparently knows more about trending posts than I do.
And based on my social media account activity, she is right.
As a social media follower, I enjoy following along with businesses and personal accounts that are real, unedited and raw.
Yet, I constantly stress, revise and edit my own posts before posting and often never actually make them live because in my eyes they don’t make the cut.
I want to make them all to make the cut. Going forward I am going to put it all out there. Will I be judged? 100% I will!
But I am turning over a new leaf at the ripe old age of 40…I am going to let it all go. Who cares what people think?!?
Not me! I hope! 🥴
One thing I know for sure is that social media is essential to building a brand or business.
Since Mike and I started SafeLunch navigating the social media jungle has been very challenging.
Finding a balance between personal and business posts has not been easy.
If you are a business owner, influencer or even just a casual poster I am sure you have questioned posting something or been scared to put something out there.
And if you haven’t, I need to talk to you! I’ll take any advice on how to get past the self doubt and fear of sharing publicly.
Please share your stories, comment on this blog, message me…one of the things I enjoy most about the power of social media is how much I can learn from other businesses, posts and just people posting real experiences!
No longer will I agonize over what to post and how to say it it in exactly the right way because that just isn’t working.
I want to be real, I want to be raw and I want to share our journey. The ups and the downs. The in’s and the out’s because boy have we learned a lot! And made a lot of mistakes!
And we can’t be the only ones struggling to make it all work. Just like I can’t be the only 40 year old woman out there who struggles with self doubt and questions about what’s next?
Marketing, inventory, shipping, customer support, product design, SEO, marriage, kids, work, balance and the list goes on and on.
-The TRUTH is when we started we had no idea how important spending money on running ads was.
-The TRUTH is we didn’t know how hard creating “authentic content” is.
-The TRUTH is we had no idea how important SEO is to an online business.
-The TRUTH is we didn’t see how shipping is a such a huge hurdle with online business…in both cost and labour but FREE shipping is a must so you have to make it work.
-The TRUTH is managing a side business along with full time jobs , two kids and maintaining a healthy marriage is hard but totally doable if you really want to make it all work.
-The TRUTH is the rewards you get from watching something you built from the bottom up succeed is worth all the hard work!
I hope sharing our journey, our daily struggles and our stories helps you with yours.
Because we can say for CERTAIN…
The TRUTH is we have caught the entrepreneurial bug and even with the scary parts, we know we are in this for the long haul!
SafeLunch is just the beginning so….
Stay tuned!
